World Accreditation Day is marked on June 9th, 2022 as a global initiative jointly established by International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), to raise awareness of the importance of accreditation.
World Accreditation Day was established in 2007 by the Joint General Assembly of the IAF and ILAC, and was first marked in 2008 with the theme Accreditation: ’’Delivering Trust in the Global Market’’.
Years ago, WAD themes covered many important aspects of accreditation, such as its ability to provide confidence in the quality of products and services, the way it benefits in certain sectors; addressing specific issue. WAD themes in recent years have focued on how accreditation supports wider global issues such as sustainable development goals (SDGs).
This year’s WAD theme is: ‘’Accreditation: Sustainability in Economic Growth and the Environment’’ and aims to draw attention to how accreditation and conformity assessment provide global solutions to issues of general importance.
In recent years, the ecosystems and natural habitats of many living beings have come under increasing pressure from climate change and pollution. Observing economic growth through prism of sustainability has become essential. Accreditation and standards can serve as a useful tool for regulators, companies and consumers to apply or demand more eco-friendly practices.
To reduce the impact of economic activities on the environment and support long-term economic growth, countries worldwide are shifting from a linear to a circular economy.
This year, as well as many previous ones, taking into account the importance of accreditation, international accreditation organizations EA, IAF and ILAC, national accreditation bodies, their associates and other quality infrastructure actors will mark the Accreditation Day in an appropriate way.
The IAF and ILAC will hold a virtual event to celebrate WAD on June 9th, 2022 in two different terms, 8:00 UTC and 19:00 UTC, so that participants from different time zones can join.
A joint statement issed by the IAF and ILAC Chairs emphasizes the importance of accreditation in supporting the implementation of SDGs and is available via the link: HERE►, while the published promotional material on WAD can be viewed at the following link: HERE►
