The CEN/CENELEC 2023 General Assembly was held

This year's session of the General Assembly of the European Committee for Standardization, CEN, and CENELEC was held from June 19th to 22nd, 2023 in Belgrade. This meeting was hosted for the first time by the Institute for Standardization of Serbia (ISS). 

CEN, the European Committee for Standardization, is an association that brings together the National Standardization Bodies of 34 European countries.

 CEN provides a platform for the development of European Standards and other technical documents in relation to various kinds of products, materials, services, and processes.

CEN supports standardization activities in relation to a wide range of fields and sectors including air and space, chemicals, construction, consumer products, defense and security, energy, the environment, food and feed, health and safety, healthcare, ICT, machinery, materials, pressure equipment, services, smart living, transport and packaging. 

CENELEC, the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization, is an association that brings together the National Electrotechnical Committees of 34 European countries.

CENELEC prepares voluntary standards in the electrotechnical field, which help facilitate trade between countries, create new markets, cut compliance costs, and support the development of a Single European Market.

CENELEC supports standardization activities in relation to a wide range of fields and sectors including Electromagnetic compatibility, Accumulators, primary cells and primary batteries, Insulated wire and cable, Electrical equipment and apparatus, Electronic, electromechanical and electrotechnical supplies, Electric motors and transformers, Lighting equipment and electric lamps, Low Voltage electrical installations material, Electric vehicles railways, smart grid, smart metering, solar (photovoltaic) electricity systems, etc.

During this period of the General Assembly session, numerous meetings were held: meetings of the administrative boards of these organizations, then joint and individual assemblies of CEN (59th) and CENELEC (65th), as well as several bilateral talks. More than 200 representatives of national standardization bodies from 34 countries around the world participated in the meetings, where further directions for the development of European standardization were decided.

In addition to closed sessions for the leaders of all delegations, a joint session of all delegates was held, as well as separate sessions of CEN members and CENELEC members. A special part was represented by three-panel debates, one of which was dedicated to the thirtieth anniversary of the single European market. 

The Institute successfully organized this large and important event with the help of sponsors and organizations that participated as friends of the Institute. The gold sponsor was the professional association Cementna industrija Srbije, and the bronze sponsors were the Accreditation Body of Serbia, DPC Networks, and a.d. Electric Grid of Serbia. The Chamber of Commerce of Serbia, Jugoinspekt d.o.o. acted as friends of the Institute. Belgrade, Institute for Materials Testing, Montprojekt d.o.o. and the companies Nexe and Eti B.

The Accreditation Body of Serbia and the Institute for Standardization of Serbia form part of the quality infrastructure system in the Republic of Serbia and represent its interests at the international level.
